Hypertensive Emergency
Hypertensive Emergency is a marked elevation blood pressure with following
- Evidence of end organ damage
- Demanding prompt rapid control of BP
Central nervous system
- Hypertensive encephalopathy
- Acute left ventricular failure
- Acute coronary syndrome
- Dissecting aurtric aneurysm
- Acute renal failure
- Eclampsia
- Symptomatic microangiopathic hemolytic anemia
25% reduction in blood pressure in 1 hour
Target BP of 160/100 mm Hg to be attained in 6 hours
Parenteral drug treatment (Nitroglycerine, sodium nitroprusside, labetalol, enalaprilat) is often re-
quired.
